It is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, flammable gas that is slightly less dense than air. Often released during combustion e.g. when the temperature or oxygen level is too low. It is poisonous and extremely difficult to detect without equipment, making it the most common type of fatal air poisoning in many countries.
Early signs of CO poisoning resemble flu-like symptoms and include headache, dizziness or nausea. If you have any of these symptoms, get fresh air immediately. Ensure proper installation and maintenance of gas appliances by using only qualified gas engineers to install and service your gas appliances.
